Zar Aslam: the super woman

If you think ladies can't take the driving seat in this patriarchal society, meet Zar Aslam, and she will show you how to do that.

Being a student, I have to use the services of an auto rickshaw almost every day. For that, i have to judge the rickshaw driver as he approaches me (I mostly go for the old ones), note the license plate number and text it to my mother, and then sit in, hoping for a safe ride home.

Even during the ride, I constantly feel nervous whenever the rickshaw hits a bump, trying to gather my body parts from falling off. Or covering my face to avoid the driver's gaze from their front mirrors, that they adjust very accurately for their view behind them.

So, as a woman and as a student, I am grateful for the step taken by Zar Aslam by introducing the Pink Rickshaw Scheme; a step to empower women in Lahore.

I caught up with her on women empowerment in Lahore. Here is what she has to say about it.

Let's all wish her good luck for her future ventures!
