Empowering to reach 50%

Empowering women and motivating them to take command of their lives is what is most needed in this patriarchal society. It’s time we get our head gear on and make our presence felt on the streets of Lahore.

A girl is born with pre-existing stereotypes and rules that stay with her for as long as doesn’t take control of them.

'Empowerment' in its literal context means to give power or warrant power. When we use the term 'women empowerment,' it means to create means and provide channels through which women can practice equal rights as men. That does not at all mean grabbing opportunities from men and overtaking them in any way.

It is important that we talk about this topic because if a single mother with five mouths to feed wants to earn by driving a rickshaw, she should be accepted by the society and supported by the government.

If she wants to ride a bike and not depend on her brother or anyone else for traveling, she should be allowed to do so without people judging her on the streets.

Several initiatives can be seen on a smaller scale that gives autonomous power to women so they can earn their livelihood without any shame or degradation.

However, still a lot of work has to be done in changing the mindsets of the masses about women taking the driver’s seat in the society.
